WHAT THE
CHALLENGE IS
The Town and Trail program
consists of four themed booklets — Nature, Town & Country, Waters and
History. The first booklet, Nature, was available in 2004 and each year
thereafter another booklet will be released. Each booklet will allow
you to collect stamps from walks in four related categories. For
example, the Nature booklet contains the categories Parks, Mountains,
Trails and Flowers. The booklet challenges you to complete seven
volkswalks (or other volkssport events) for each of the four categories
for a total of 28 events. A completed booklet entitles you to a 6”x6”,
full-color patch in jewel tones. Earn all four patches to make a set of
four — one each in green, gold, purple and blue. You have three years
to complete each booklet.
CHALLENGE START & END
Each booklet kicks-off in
February at one of 2 walk events — ESVA’s Northwest Trek walk or the NW
Tulip Trekker’s Concrete event. Booklets can also be ordered by mail.
The start-end dates for the booklets are:
1. Waters: 2006-2008 2. History: 2007-2009
THEMES & CATEGORIES
The three booklets in this
program and the categories in each booklet are:
Waters — contains the categories Lakes, Rivers, Bridges and Ocean
Fronts. The 6”x6” patch is full-color with a blue border.
History — contains the categories Monuments, Museums, Places on
the National Historic Register and Cemeteries. The 6”x6” patch is
full-color with a purple border.
All Clubs --- contains the category of all Volkssporting clubs in
Washington State. The 6"x6" patch is full-color with a green border.

SPECIAL RULES
* In order for a walk to qualify for a category (such as Flowers) the
sponsoring club must designate the walk for that category in the
Pathfinder, in their brochure, on the WSC website or at the walk
itself. You can check our list of walks on this site (see links on the
left).
* Clubs, see our list of what qualifies for what categories.
* A given walk may only be stamped under one category even if it is
designated for several. If it is a YRE or seasonal and you rewalk the
event in a different six-month period, you may use the stamp for another
category. You may never count a given walk again in the same category,
even if you walk it in a different year.
* Regular events, YREs or seasonals all count, including bikes,
cross-country skis, swims or other volkssport events, as long as the
event has an official AVA stamp. You must pay for credit for the event
and fill out a start card.
* The booklets must be filled with AVA stamps only (no write-ins).
GETTING YOUR STAMPS
When you finish a walk or
other volkssport event, you can get stamps in your Town & Trail booklets
at the same time as you get your stamps in your regular AVA Event and
Distance booklets.
COST
Cost of the program is $8.00
for each of the two booklets ( Waters and History, the All Clubs booklet
is $10.00). The cost per booklet includes your booklet, postage and
your patch award. The cost is paid up front when you order your
booklet. The patch award will be sent to you when you mail in the
completed booklet. The booklet must be mailed in by (or just after) the
program end date. No refunds will be given.
