Boardwalk / Fort Story

Start Location:   Food Mart 909 General Booth Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23451

Start / Finish Times: Daylight hours, 7 days per week. Not available on New Year’s Day.

Note: Pets are restricted from the Boardwalk from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  Must have picture ID to enter Fort Story military installation to view Cape Henry Lighthouse area.

 Walk the USA, A-Z.

Fees: There is no fee to bike the trail. This is a credit only event. The fee for IVV credit will be $3. B Awards may be available.

Facilities: There are restrooms and water available at the start/finish point. Food, refreshments, and restrooms are available along the route.

Course Description: The trails are rated 1. The bike routes are on sidewalks designated as bike paths. Bikers should wear a helmet.

Highlights: The route goes to the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum and the Old Coast Guard Museum, as well as the main Boardwalk along the beach, Fort Story and the Cape Henry Lighthouse.

Directions: From I-64, take Exit 284 (I-264) east toward the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. You will go about 8 miles. Leave I-264 at Exit 22 (Birdneck Road). Turn right on Birdneck Road and continue for about 2.8 miles. Turn right at the intersection of Birdneck Road and General Booth Blvd. (there is a Mc Donalds at this intersection). The Holiday  Food Mart is just ahead on the right.
